Why a quarter size matters on an eternity band
A quarter ring size is about 0.2 mm of inside diameter, or roughly 0.65 mm of circumference. On most rings that is a detail you would never notice. On a full eternity band it is permanent, because a band set with diamonds the whole way around cannot be resized after it is made.
That is the whole reason Rosette makes eternity bands in quarter sizes from 3 to 15, forty-nine sizes, rather than stopping at half sizes.
What a quarter size actually measures
Ring sizes are a scale rather than a unit, so it helps to see the millimeters underneath them. Taking three consecutive entries from our size guide:

A full size is 0.8 mm of diameter and 2.6 mm of circumference. A half size is 0.4 mm and 1.3 mm. A quarter size is therefore about 0.2 mm of diameter and 0.65 mm of circumference.
Across the full range we make, size 3 has an inside diameter of 14.1 mm and size 15 has 23.8 mm. Every quarter step between them is that same fifth of a millimeter.
Why the difference is permanent on a full eternity band
A full eternity band carries diamonds around its entire circumference. There is no plain section of gold anywhere on it.
Resizing an ordinary ring means cutting the shank, adding or removing a little metal, and soldering it closed. An eternity band has no shank to cut. Changing its circumference would change how many stones fit around it, which means it is not a resize at all. It is a different ring. So the size is set when the piece is made, and the size you order is the size you keep.
This is why the extra precision is worth something here specifically. On a solitaire, being a quarter size out is a visit to a jeweler. On a full eternity band, it is the difference between a ring you wear and a ring you do not.
Eternity bands sit slightly snugger than plain ones
Because the diamonds run the whole way around, the inside of the band is not a smooth cylinder, and it passes over the knuckle differently from a plain band of the same nominal size.
Our guidance, which is on every eternity band product page: if your measurement falls exactly between two quarter sizes, take the larger one.
What can be adjusted later, and what cannot
- Full eternity bands, set to their final size when they are made.
- Half eternity bands, have plain gold at the shoulders, so they can usually be adjusted.
- Bracelets and necklaces, can usually be adjusted.
If a full eternity band arrives in the wrong size, treat it as an exchange under our returns policy rather than an alteration. That is nearly always the better outcome, and it is why we would rather spend time on the measurement than on the repair.
How to measure before you order
The size guide carries the full conversion table from US 3 to 15 with inside diameter, inside circumference, UK and EU equivalents. It also has a print calibration bar, so you can check your printer has not scaled the page before you measure against it.
Two things worth knowing whatever method you use. Fingers change size through the day and with temperature, so measure warm rather than first thing in the morning. And measure the finger you will actually wear it on. Most people are not the same size on both hands.
