Eternity band vs half eternity band: which should you buy?
A full eternity band puts diamonds the whole way around; a half eternity puts them across the top and leaves smooth gold against your palm. The full band gives more diamond and more light. The half gives more comfort, more sizing flexibility, and a lower price at the same stone size.
What each one is
A full eternity band carries diamonds around its entire circumference. There is no plain section anywhere on it, so it reads as diamond from every angle and never has a side to turn inward.
A half eternity band sets diamonds across the visible upper portion and leaves the lower half as solid gold. On the hand, that is the part nobody sees.
Which one actually looks different?
Less than people expect. Viewed from above, which is how a ring on your own hand is almost always seen. The two are close to identical, because the stones a full band adds are the ones facing your palm.
The difference shows when the ring is off the hand, when it catches light from below, and when someone else looks at your hand side-on.
Comfort and daily wear
This is where the half eternity earns its place. Gold against the palm is smoother than a row of settings, particularly between the fingers and particularly if you wear another ring alongside it. Anyone who works with their hands tends to notice within a week.
A full eternity band is entirely wearable. It has been the standard for a century, but the diamonds go all the way round, and you feel them.
Sizing: the difference that is permanent
A full eternity band is set to its final size when it is made. The number of stones is fixed to the circumference, so changing the size means changing the number of diamonds, which makes it a different ring rather than a resize.
A half eternity has a plain gold section, which gives a jeweler material to work with if your finger changes. That flexibility is worth real money over a lifetime.
